March is International Women’s Month and the STU library is celebrating women’s experience around the world with a series of guest speakers, events, and a display of books and films by and about women.
We currently have two events scheduled (and more to come!).
Join us on Thurs. March 17 at 1:00 pm for “Catholic Womanhood in Spain” a lecture by guest speaker Dr. Aurora Morcillo (Associate Professor of History and Women’s Studies, FIU). Dr. Morcillo will discuss the experience of Catholic women during Franco’s regime, and her recent works:
- True Catholic Womanhood: Gender Ideology in Franco’s Spain (2008)
- The Seduction of Modern Spain: The Female Body and the Francoist Body Politic (2010)
And join us on Tuesday, March 22 at 11:00 am for a guest lecture by Dr. Michelle Gonzalez Maldonado (Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, UM). Dr. Gonzalez Maldonado will discuss her research on women’s religious experience and her latest work:
- Shopping: Christian Explorations of Daily Living (2010).
